Unemployed graduates to protest

Members of the Unemployed Graduates Union of Batticaloa (UGUB), will do a 'sit-in' demonstration before the Gandhi statue in Batticaloa town tomorrow morning because the police has refused to grant them permission to hold a mass rally, said K Udayakumar, the deputy leader of the organisation.

The UGUB, which boasts of 435 predominantly Tamil and Muslim members in the Batticaloa district, was to hold the rally to highlight the problem of unemployment of undergraduates in the eastern province.

Tomorrow's sit-in will be attended by MPs of the Batticaloa District. This will be followed by a relay fast scheduled to commence on Thursday.
