Fishermen picket Point Pedro District Secretariat

Fisherment from Point Pedro and surrounding areas picketed the Point Pedro distric secretariat offices this morning demanding that they be allowed to return and resettle in their own homes located inside the High Security Zone (HSZ), sources in Point Pedro said.

Several hundred residents from the Point Pedro harbour area, Kottadi, 2nd and 3rd Cross streets and Sinnathoddam, picketed the secratariat offices preventing the opening of the office for normal duty.

The picketers warned the Regional secretary, S. Sivasamy, who went to the Secretariat premises around 10am that the protest will continue until they receive a satisfactory answer to their predicament.

MR. Sivasamy assured the fishemen that he will forward their complaints to his superiors and that he will obtain an answer within one week. The protesters handed over an memorandum to be sent to the Minisiter and afflicated officers and suspended the protest, sources said.
