The Liberation Tigers overran the Special Task Force camp at Arantalawa in the early hours of the morning today.
The STF base, located on the border of the Ampara and Batticalao districts, about 35 kilometers northeast of the Ampara town on the road to Mahaoya junction is one of the largest STF camps in the eastern province. According to initial reports from Ampara, the camp had been swiftly overrun as many of its defenders had taken to their heels in the first phase of the LTTE attack. Crack units of the Liberation Tigers had smashed through the three defense perimeters of the well fortified camp. Sources said that S.L army and STF units from nearby positions are yet (9.30 a.m Sri Lanka time Monday, Oct.6) to fully secure the scene of devastation.
