Sinhala National Front seeks cancellation of LTTE radio license

The Sinhala Jathika Sangamaya (Sinhala National Front) Tuesday filed a writ application in the Colombo Court of Appeal seeking the nullification of the license granted to the Liberation Tigers (LTTE) to operate a radio station in Killinochchi, which is under the control of the LTTE, legal sources said.
The Secretary of the hard-line Sinhala Jathika Sangamaya, Dr. Piyasena Dissanayake, Tuesday filed the said writ application citing the Director General of Customs, Norwegian Ambassador in Colombo, Minister of Mass Communication, Mr.Imtiaz Bakeer Markar, Mass Communication Ministry Secretary Mr. Kumar Rupesinghe, Chairman of the Telecom Regulating Commission and Mr.Pulithevan of the Killinochchi Peace Secretariat as respondents. The petitioner said the granting of license to operate a radio station at Killinochchi is a clear violation of the normal and accepted procedure. and therefore the Appeal Court should order the annulment of the license granted to the LTTE to operate a radio station in Killinochchi, the petitioner stated in his writ application. An individual Mr.D.P.G.Jayatilake also filed a writ application in the Court of Appeal on the same ground Tuesday, legal sources said.
