Several residents of Nedunthivu Saturday clashed with members of para military group Eelam peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) when they attempted to use drinking water from the tank nearby for bathing. The villagers depend on the said tank for their day to day needs for drinking and cooking, sources said.
When some EPDP members Saturday came out from the buildings and used the water for bathing a group of residents clashed with EPDP members and chased them to their camps,
sources said. The Police intervened and gave an assurance to
the residents that the EPDP members staying in the District Secretariat (DS) and Predeshya Sabha (PS) office
buildings would not be allowed in future to enter the village, sources said. Residents of the village continued their picketing Saturday also, sources said. EPDP members are staying in buildings of Pradesya Sabha and Divisional Secretariat offices in Nedunthivu since they entered the village more than a month ago with the protection of the Sri Lanka Navy and the Police. People of Nedunthivu daily picket the buildings against the presence EPDP members and demanding that they should withdraw from the village, sources said.
