PA parliamentary group meets after Ranil-Chandrika talks

President Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge convened an urgent meeting of the parliamentary group of the main opposition Peoples Alliance (PA) Saturday afternoon following a discussion between her and the Prime Minister Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe held Friday at the Presidential Secretariat. "The President will consult the United National Front (UNF) government before making any public statement on the peace process," said a statement issued by the Presidential media unit Sunday.
The Prime Minister discussed with President Chandrika Kumaratunge on Friday in detail about the High Security Zone (HSZ) issue which is to be taken up at the fourth session of the first round of peace talks scheduled to begin
in Thailand Monday, Presidential media unit statement said. It further said that the President and Prime Minister have reached agreement on several issues related to the peace process. They also agreed to act in close co-operation and solve all issues through negotiation. The two leaders agreed to regularize their contact once a week on Thursday or once in a fortnight if parliament is in session, sources said.
