Varied results seen in Jaffna polls

The Elections Commissioner's office in Jaffna Kachcheri claimed this evening that about 110,000 people had cast their votes in the local government elections in the Jaffna peninsula today. However, the state owned TV station announced that 106,000 people had voted.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports from the Jaffna Kachcheri counting centre said that PLOTE was leading in Pachchilaipalli Pradeshiya Sabha and EPRLF was leading in the Pt. Pedro Pradeshiya Sabha while TELO was leading in the Valvetithurai Urban Council.

Sources in the Jaffna Kachcheri counting centre also said that, in those areas where the counting is currently taking place, there is a neck to neck race between PLOTE and TULF.
