The World Bank said Sunday it is to launch a comprehensive needs assessment survey on Monday (January 20) in partnership with the United Nations and
Asian Development Bank (ADB) to identify problems related to housing, education, infrastructure development, resettlement and employment in the northeast
province, Colombo sources said.
The findings of the needs assessment survey will be forwarded to the
international aid conference scheduled to be held in June in Tokyo, Japan,
World Bank sources said. Meanwhile the World Bank would start disbursing funds for the
reconstruction of war ravaged northeast province from next month. The funds
would come from the forty three million dollar emergency package offered in
November last year, Colombo World Bank sources said. Last Saturday the World Health Organization (WHO) signed an agreement
with North East Provincial Council to improve the health sector in the province.
