ADB provides assistance to NE agriculture, health

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded North East Community Restoration
and Development Project (NECORD) is to distribute several hundred thousand
rupees worth of agricultural machinery, implements and lorries among the
implementing agencies to facilitate the resettlement and reconstruction
programme in the districts of Mannar, Vavuniya, Batticaloa and
Killinochchi, sources said.
Mr.J.R.Cooney, Country Director of the Asian Development Bank will
ceremonially hand over the first consignment of 05 four-wheel tractors, 07
two-wheel tractors, 07 combined harvesters, 15 water pumps, 31 sprayers and
two lorries worth Rs 11,725,250.00 in Trincomalee on Wednesday (29.01.2003)
morning to the heads of departments in the four districts. Lorries are to be given to Killinochchi and
Batticaloa districts to transport drugs to government hospitals and
dispensaries in the respective districts, sources said. The Governor of the North East Province, Chief Secretary of the NEPC,
Government Agents of eight districts in the northeast province will
attended the event, NECORD sources said. Meanwhile the NECORD co-ordinating committee meeting is also scheduled to
be held on Wednesday morning at the auditorium of the NEPC Health Ministry
prior to the handing over event, sources said.
