The body of a Policeman who went missing after the attack on the Sri Lankan army-Police point at the Gurunagar jetty on Wednesday night was found washed ashore this morning on a small sand bar near Sirutheevu by the Mandatheevu island south of Jaffna town.
The Liberation Tigers launched an assault on the Sri Lankan security forces point at the Gurunagar jetty in the Jaffna town on the night before the Jaffna elections, wounding one soldier. Twenty policemen who were at this point with the army ran away during the assault. All of them, except one, returned the same night. Meanwhile the owners of private commercial vehicles in the Batticaloa district decided today that none of their passenger buses, lorries and vans will be sent to Colombo until the golden jubilee celebrations are over in Colombo on February 4. The decision was taken in view of the severe restrictions placed by the Sri Lankan security forces on vehicles from Batticaloa. The army tightened the restrictions on lorries from Batticaloa to Colombo last week.
