SLA suspects identified in attempted rape case

In the identification parade conducted today at the Vavuniya Courts associated with the attempted rape last Sunday in Ganesapuram in Vavuniya district, two Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were identified as the alleged offenders by the witnesses, legal sources in Vavuniya said.
A complaint was filed in Vavuniya Police last Sunday, 26 January, that SLA soldiers including a high level officer of the Ganesapuram army camp had allegedly entered a house in Ganesapuram late night and had attempted to rape a woman. Following the complaint, the Vavuniya police arrested four SLA suspects and produced them in Vavuniya courts. Vavuniya district court judge Ms. Srinithi Nanthasekaran ordered the suspects to be remanded and directed an identification parade to be held to identify the perpertrators of the crime. 15 SLA soldiers were ordered to stand in the identification parade. The judge ordered the police to hold the two identified suspects in remand till 13 February, legal sources said.
