The Liberation Tiger units in Jaffna have stepped up their attacks whilst in the east, another Sri Lankan detachment was overrun last night.

Jaffna Tigers step up attacks

The Liberation Tigers stepped up attacks on Sri Lankan army positions in the Jaffna peninsula since last week.

Small units of the LTTE took on the Sri Lankan army at Madaththady, Sarasalai, Mandaan and Pt.Pedro town. Four soldiers were killed in these incidents.

Following an attack on the Sri Lankan army at Mandaan on Oct.4, a large area in the Vadamaradchi division was cordoned off for a search operation.

Men and women in Puloli,Alvaai,Karaveddi, Karanavai and Udupiddi were herded by the Sri Lankan security forces to selected public spots and questioned. Other Sri Lankan troops searched the area.

Traffic from Pt.Pedro to Jaffna was blocked at Kunjar Kadai for more than an hour.

A Sri Lankan soldier was killed between Sarasalai and Nunavil on Monday (Oct.6) by the Liberation Tigers.

The S.L army had carried out an early morning cordon and search operation only three days before the incident, in Madduvil north, Maanaavalai and Sarasalai.

A deaf and dumb person who had set out to his field at dawn was killed by the SL army during this search operation.


Tigers storm eastern security post

Four military trained policemen were killed and two wounded when the Liberation Tigers stormed a police detachment at Kaluwanchikudi 24 kilometers south of Batticaloa town in the eastern province last night - Oct.6.

The firing and shelling from the nearby STF camp rocked the small town the whole night. The town lies close to the vast hinterland controlled by the LTTE in the east.

The attacking troops of the Tigers crossed the lagoon by boat said sources in Kaluwanchikudy today.


Amparai attack casualties

The LTTE said they killed 14 Sri Lankan soldiers when they overran the STF base at Aranthalawa yesterday morning, whilst losing 12 troops themselves.

The LTTE captured a large quantity of arms, including 60mm mortars, RPG-7s, assault rifles and over 11,000 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
