Batticaloa, Jaffna residents pay respect to Sea Tigers killed

Several memorial events were conducted Friday in Batticaloa district and Jaffna peninsula to pay respect to the eleven Sea Tigers of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) killed on 10 March when their merchant vessel in international waters off the coast of Trincomalee was sunk by the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) craft, sources said.

At the memorial event held at Mahajana College, Batticaloa, presided by the LTTE Batticaloa Town political head, Kuyilan, head of the sports section, Nilam, lit the ceremonial lamp and Batticaloa-Amparai head of the political section, Kirushan, unveiled the photographs of the Sea Tigers. Member of Batticaloa Mothers Front, Pakiyamma, garlanded the photos.

Batticaloa-Amparai head of the LTTE women political wing, Banuka, Mothers Front co-ordinator, Kannan, and head of People's Club, A. Selvendran, spoke.

Head of LTTE political section, Sutha Master, presided a memorial event in Kokkadichcholai, Kartig presided the event held in Kaluwanchchikudi, Kudumbimalai head of political section, Jeya, presided a memorial event in Illlupadichchenai, and Aandankulam head of LTTE political section, THothiran, presided memorial events in Valaichenai and Vakarai, sources said.

Large number of Batticaloa district residents participated in these events and paid respect to Sea Tigers killed in the incident at sea.

Jaffna peninsula Friday mourned the death of the eleven cadres of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in sea. Photographs of eleven LTTE cadres were taken in float in the shape of a ship in the divisions of Vadamarachi, Thenmaradchchi and Valigamam in the peninsula, sources said.

Hundreds of students and members of civil societies participated in the event, sources said.

At the end of processions public meetings were held at Nelliyady in the Vadamarachchi division, and at Kodikamam in Thenmaradchchi division. Local leaders of LTTE participated in these events, sources said.
