Northeast photographic exhibition opens in Trincomalee

A two-day photographic exhibition of the North East Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs was declared open Saturday by the Secretary of the
Provincial Public Service Commission, Mr.P.Balasingham. More than five hundred photographs focusing on historic places, antiques, cultural
identity and scenic beauty of the Tamil dominated province were part of the exhibit.
The exhibition is to continue till Sunday evening. Presiding over the inaugural event Provincial Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs and Sports Mr.R.Thiagalingam said, education and
culture are intertwined and added,
"We must take steps to safeguard the glory of our ancient culture while providing space to accomodate new thinking." He said photography can be used to document our ancient glory and culture of the past for the future generation. The chief guest Mr.Balasingham said, "We must use the present peaceful environment to safeguard our culture and its values from being destroyed due to factors not in our control." Provincial Assistant Director of Cultural Affairs Ms N.Sri Devi made the welcome address.
