Tigers damage main battle tank - Radio

The Voice of Tigers said this morning that fierce fighting broke out between the Liberation Tigers and the Sri Lankan army north of Kilinochchi from morning yesterday. The radio said that many SLA troops were killed and wounded in this fighting and that one SLA main battle tank was damaged.

The battle continued for several hours it said.

The SLA had launched the attack with tanks backed by artillery fire. The LTTE is continuing with attacks on SLA targets with artillery fire the VoT said.

Meanwhile the 'Thinamurasu', the Tamil weekly with the largest circulation in Sri Lanka, said in this week's issue which hit the news stands this morning that a senior commander of the Liberation Tigers had hoisted the Tiger flag in the heart of Kilinochchi town yesterday - which was Sri Lanka's fiftieth independence anniversary.
