TULF waives rates

The Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), which controls the Jaffna Municipal Council (JMC), has pledged to the residents living within the municipal borders, that rates will not be levied for the next four years, said sources in Jaffna.

Rates will be levied only after the situation in Jaffna returns to normal the TULF said.

These measures are being taken to give relief to the affected people in the area, said a TULF councillor.

But the party's opponents in the councils claim that this concession offered by the TULF to the residents in the JMC, is in view of soliciting support for the forthcoming provincial council elections, scheduled to be held before June this year.
