Youths arrested near Buddhist temple

Two Tamil youths were taken into custody by the Kandy police for attempting to enter the Dalada Maligawa after forcing their way past a checkpoint near the Temple around 9:00 p.m. last night, said Police sources in Colombo today.
Ramiah Subramanian from Nuwara Eliya and N. Pathmanathan from Naanu Oya, both towns in Sri Lanka's Tamil dominated Nuwara Eliya District in the Central Province, were taken into custody at the checkpoint on the D S Senanayake Road, Dalada Road junction and were produced before the Kandy magistrate who remanded them till March 20. The police said that the two persons could not give an adequate explanation for their presence in Kandy at that time of the night.
