The Liberation Tigers, who arrived in 2 speed boats last night, attacked and completely destroyed one Sri Lanka Army (SLA) sentry point at 'Savakalai' junction in Gurunagar in Jaffna. Other sentry points were also damaged near the Gurunagar housing scheme.
A group of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) fighters landed in Gurunagar last night and attacked the SLA, said unconfirmed reports from Jaffna. Details of the attack are not known. It is believed that soldiers of the SLA who were in the area, have gone missing since last night. Local residents said that the Tigers had remained in the area until the early hours of the morning today before withdrawing. The SLA shelled the Gurunagar area from its Palaly base from 10.30 - 11.00 p.m. last night said sources. Meanwhile sources in Jaffna said that a landmine was discovered in the premises of the Jaffna Kachcheri, which is within the SLA controlled town, this morning and was later defused by the Sri Lankan Army.
