V. Ilankumaran, head of Tamileelam Educational Organization, while addressing the audience during discussions in Kilinochchi on Tamil literature, Sunday, said that it is important to enforce discipline in the use of Tamil to prevent intrusion of foreign language words into speaking and written Tamil, and to preserve the purity of this ancient language.
Center for Tamil Growth was started by the leaders of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to carry out this task, said Ilankumaran. The Center for Tamil Growth working with a mission of "Tamil in Everything, Tamil Everywhere" is encouraging the Tamils of Northeast to name their children with pure Tamil names, to name the roads and business enterprises in pure Tamil names and is discouraging the use of foreign words, mainly English, while conversing or writing in Tamil, said Ilankumaran. He added, "History shows how Tamil has undergone changes with intrusion of foreign in the last 2000 years. While we are engaged in a struggle to reclaim our Tamil land, we should be preserving our Tamilness by fearlessly maintaining the purity of our language."
