LTTE holding Kilinochchi FDLs

Brigadier Lohan Gunawardana, the General Officer Commanding of the 54 division told the team of journalists which was taken by the SLA to Kilinochchi yesterday that the LTTE is still in control of the four kilometer long Forward Defence Lines (FDLs) in the southern part of the town. The 54 division is stationed in the Elephant Pass- Paranthan- Kilinochchi complex.
The Virakesari, the independent Tamil daily with the largest circulation in the island reported today that the army is in control of the areas to the west of the town. The paper, which also sent a journalist on yesterday's SLA tour, said that the press team was taken through western suburbs of the town after being shown the hospital, post office and nearby shops. In some areas, the distance between the SLA's FDL and the LTTE's positions is less than 800 meteres, the army told the journalists on the conducted tour of Kilinochchi. These are in the northern part of the town.
