Promised allowances stopped

The Jaffna Kachcheri has told officials that it has no money to fund the resettlement allowance that is due to 2000 families in the Tellipalai administrative division (formerly Assistant Government Agent's division).

The authorities have earmarked 3375 families for the payment of 5000 rupees (85 USD) each, as assistance for resettlement. Of these, 1375 have been given the allowance.

The Kachcheri has stopped payments now saying that it has no more money.

This has put several poor families, who had begun repairs to their homes hoping for the payments to complete the work in great difficulty said officials in the area.
