Mr.Nadaraja Premachandran alias Jegan, a political activist of the
Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Wednesday lodged a complaint at the
Jaffna regional office of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka that the
Sri Lanka Army at Muhamalai checkpoint had humiliated him when he was on
his way to Kilinochchi, human rights officials in Jaffna said.
Mr. Premachandran has stated in his complaint that he came to Jaffna from Kilinochchi on
leave, and after spending several days in Jaffna, he was returning to Kilinochchi
when he was arrested by the SLA soldiers at Muhamalai check point on Tuesday
around noon and he was handcuffed and dragged by SLA soldiers in the
presence of public to the Chavakachcheri police station. At the police station, the police wrote a statement in the Sinhala language purported to have been made by him and he had been forced to sign that statement. Thereafter, he was taken to the Chunnakam police station and there also the police wrote a statement in
the Sinhala language and forced him to sign it. Mr. Premachandran said he was released on the same day evening. The Jaffna regional co-ordinator of the HRC, Mr.Ruwan Chandrasekara, said
that he would be taking action on the complaint made by the LTTE activist
on Thursday, media sources in Jaffna said.
