[TamilNet, Monday, 15 September 2003, 18:43 GMT]
A conference was held between the Jaffna district political head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, Mr.C.Ilamparuthi, and the northern
commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Major General Sarath Fonseka, around noon
Monday at the Jaffna office of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission, sources said.
This was the first conference attended by Major General Sarath Fonseka on his return from abroad. Several SLA officials accompanied Major General Fonseka, and
several LTTE political activists were associated with Mr.Ilamparuthi in the talks, sources said. The SLMM organised this meeting to sort out several issues including hoisting of Tiger flag at public functions in government-controlled areas, informed sources said. The outcome of the discussion held for about two hours between the LTTE and SLA leaders was not officially released, and SLMM sources said it was routine talks between the SLA and LTTE. At the discussion, SLA officials had expressed their strong protest over the hoisting of Tiger flag in areas controlled by them. The discussion ended without arriving at any decision on any issues, sources said.
