"Historically Trincomalee district belongs to Tamils. According to a leading Sinhala historian late Mr. Paul Peiris, before King Vijaya arrived in the island Koneswaram temple was present in Trincomalee. It proves that Saiva Tamils were living in Trincomalee before King Vijaya arrived. The majority Sinhala community and its political leadership are finding
difficult to digest the historical facts that clearly show that Tamils are
the legal owners of the Trincomalee," Mr.Sampanthan said.
Mr.Sampanthan added that finding a political solution to the ethnic problem has become a difficult and complicated issue because of Trincomalee district,
which possess many natural resources not available in other districts of the
northeast province and also in other parts of the country.

struggle has attained a new dimension as a people's movement and the new
Tamil magazine Konamarutham should contribute to raise awareness among
Tamils in search of a just and a fair solution to the conflict.
