The Valigamam Peoples’ Associations’ Consortium Sunday decided to launch agitation campaign in the Jaffna district demanding that the internally displaced families should be allowed to resettle in their lands which come under the high security zones of the government security forces, civil sources said.
A decision to this effect was taken Sunday morning at a meeting presided by the Consortium President Mr.S. Sivamaharasa summoned to discuss the question of the resettlement of IDPs. Jaffna district Tamil National Parliamentarians Messrs Mavai Senathirajah, N.Raviraj, G.G.Gajendrakumar and M.K.Sivajilingam and several members of the consortium and public participated in the discussion, sources said. It was also decided at the meeting to appoint an action committee to organize agitation campaign thus exerting more pressure on the Sri Lanka government in and outside the parliament to allow IDPs to resettle in their lands whether they come under HSZ or not, sources said The meeting ruled out a suggestion of taking legal steps against the Sri Lanka government in this regard as they could not expect justice from the current Sri Lanka legal system, sources said.
