Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sampanthan said the Trincomalee district has not been developed in the spheres of agricultural and fisheries due to step-motherly treatment by the successive governments in power.

"We hope the proposed interim administration for the northeast province would become a reality and it would help us to develop the war-ravaged province in a planned way. We need trained manpower for development. Hence the Technical College could immensely contribute to the development of the district by producing skilled youths in various disciplines of technical education," Mr.Sampanthan said.

Trincomalee St Mary's Girls College Principal, Rev. Sister Therese Ranee and several others also spoke at the event.
