Plans for Batti-Amparai Pongu Thamil said complete

The organizing committee of the Pongu Thamil (Tamil upsurge) event to be held at the Sports grounds of the Eastern University in Vantharumoolai on January 21 has completed its arrangements for the event and sent invitations to Sri Lanka’s President, Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunga, and Prime Minister, Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe, committee sources said.

The propaganda committee for the event includes Students from the Eastern University, College of Education, Teachers’ college, Technical College, Nurses’ college and the Technical college.

The organizing committee has asked the public to start displaying yellow and red flags in Vehicles, homes, business establishments, government offices and public buildings from Saturday.

On the Pongu Thamil day, the people of Amparai, led by Mr. Ariyanayagam Chandranehru, the Tamil National Alliance Member of Parliament for Amparai, will start on a procession from Thirukovil at 6 a.m.

The people of Kaluwanchikudy and Paduvankarai will join Mr. G. Krishnapillai, the Batticaloa TNA MP, in a procession to the Eastern University.

Mr. Joseph Pararajasingham, the other TNA MP from Batticaloa, will lead the procession from the clock tower in Batticaloa town at 8 a.m.

All processions will meet at Senkalady and from there will be led to the University grounds in Vantharumoolai by a student music band.

The people from Valaichenai and Vakarai will meet at Siththandy and will be led to the campus grounds with band music from students.

The people of Paduvankarai are also planning a procession through Amplanthurai, Valaiyiravu bridge, Manmunaithurai and Senkalady bridge, sources said.

Meanwhile, the organizers said they have also sent invitations to Colombo-based diplomats, ambassadors from several countries, and artists and political leaders from the South.
