SLA, LTTE commanders discuss Trinco situation

The General Officer Commanding of the Sri Lanka Army for the Trincomalee district, Major General Sunil Tennekon, and the Trincomalee district commander of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, Colonel Pathuman, held discussions Friday evening at the no-man zone in Muttur division at Kattaiparichchan, gateway to the LTTE held Muttur east villages in Trincomalee district, civil sources said

Associated with Colonel Pathuman at the meeting was the LTTE’s district political head, Mr.S.Tilak. Brigadier Zahir was accompanied Maj. Gen. Tennekon. The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) delegation was led by its Trincomalee head, Mr.Abdel Burkan, and included. Monitor Mr.Kurt Spur, sources said.

Both parties held extensive discussions about the prevailing situation in the Trincomalee district, including recent violence in the Muttur, Kinniya and Mullipottana areas, sources said.

It was agreed at the discussion that SLA should take steps to meet leading Muslim citizens in the district, thus creating a conducive atmosphere for the people of all communities to move freely to run their day-to-day lives, sources said.

It was also agreed that the LTTE should also assist in bringing back normalcy in Tamil areas, thus reducing tension, sources added.
