Soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army along with police personnel Monday night
removed the speed breakers which had been constructed in front of the
Kodikamam Maveerar Thuyilum Illam (mausoleum) in the Thenmaradchchi division of the Jaffna district as a precautionary measure to avoid accidents, civil sources said
Tuesday.
The Kodikamam Maveerar Thuyilum Illam, which was destroyed by the Sri Lanka
Army when it captured the peninsula in 1996, is now being renovated in
connection with the Thamileelam Maveerar Day celebration scheduled to be
held from November 21 to November 27, sources said Hundreds of people of the area have been engaged in the renovation work of
the mausoleum, which is located along the Kodikamam-Point Pedro road. Speed
breakers have been constructed as a temporary measure as a part of the
renovation to avoid accidents during Maveerar Day celebrations being held,
sources said. However, a group of army soldiers and police personnel gathered at the site
suddenly Tuesday night and removed the speed breakers without any advance
notice, said LTTE activists in the area.
