"Give priority to peace process"- Trinco DCC
[TamilNet, Monday, 10 November 2003, 16:30 GMT]
The Trincomalee District Chamber of Commerce (DCC) Monday appealed in a statement to the governing parties of Sri Lanka to eschew party politics and give top priority to the peace process.
The statement from the DCC said: “It is an accepted fact locally and internationally that a conducive environment for trade and commerce was brought about in our country
including the North and East, after the MOU was signed between the present UNF government and the LTTE. " But the present political crisis can trigger an adverse impact where peace initiatives are concerned. "The present situation is indeed confusing and the takeover of key ministries and prorogation of parliament may deepen the crisis. The business community collectively appeals to all governing bodies to give first priority to peace negotiations, which is the only way forward. This is definitely not the time for political gains."
