The Chavakachcheri Magistrate, Mr.P.Subramaniam, Monday ordered the court registrar to inform the parents of Mr. Mahalingam Ratnarajan of Tharmapuram in the Kilinochchi district, that he has been in remand for the last two months in Jaffna prison, legal sources said.
Another Tamil youth, Mr.Jeyathasan Selvarajah, of Point Pedro has also been in remand since Friday, November 14, on a report by the Police that the suspect had entered the Nagarkovil high security zone. The SLA had arrested him a few weeks back, court sources said Mr. Ratnarajan alias Easan,30, of Uluvanoor in Tharmapuram, was arrested by Sri Lanka Army soldiers last August when he accidentally entered into the high security zone in the Nagarkovil area in Vadamarachchi east on his return from the Chundikulam sea after fishing in the northern waters, legal sources said. The Magistrate ordered remand for the suspect when the Kodikamam police produced him in court. Later, on the next date of inquiry, the Magistrate requested the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) to inform the
parents of the suspect as he has been suffering from a mental disorder. However, the ICRC refused to accede to the request, stating that doing so did not come
under its mandate, legal sources said. Thereafter the Magistrate Monday ordered the court registrar to inform the
suspect's parents about his condition , legal sources said.
