The Jaffna University Students Union (JUSU), in a statement released Sunday evening, warned that grave repercussion would follow if the Sinhala dominated Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Police continued their hostile activities against Tamil students and civilians in the Jaffna district with the assistance of their quislings.
"The SLA and police have undoubtedly shown disregard to the feelings and aspirations of Tamils by destroying decorated structures and arches erected in several parts of the Jaffna district to celebrate the Great Heroes Day,"
said the JUSU in its statement. The JUSU further said the SLA and police had violated an understanding that
had been reached at a discussion between the SLA and LTTE in the presence
of members of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) regarding the celebrations
of the Great Heroes Day, which falls on November 27. The JUSU condemned the actions of the SLA and police in civil with thugs
entering the office of the International Students' Association of Tamil
Eelam Sunday early morning without courts order and damaging computers and
photographic equipments in the office.
