Heroes day celebrations begin in Batticaloa

Batticaloa-Amparai district began its main celebrations for the Heroes day at the Tharavai Heroes cemetary on Tuesday morning. Col. Karuna, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Senior Commander for the East, participated as the chief guest hoisting the Tamileelam flag, sources said.
Col.Karuna was received by the LTTE marching band and a special military parade and was taken to the Heroes cemetary Tuesday morning. After hoisting the Tamileelam national flag, he garlanded and placed flowers to several memorial stones of LTTE martyrs, sources attending the ceremony said. Special Commander for Batticaloa-Amparai district, Ramesh, Batticaloa-Amparai LTTE Commander Robert, Head of LTTE Batticaloa Intelligence Wing, Ramanan, Commanders Nagesh, Thatha, LTTE Head of Cultural section S.P.Easwaranathan, Head of Economic Development Nizam, Head of LTTE Women's Wing, Nilavini participated in the celebrations. The opening ceremonies were postponed from 7am to 11am due to burial at the Heroes cemetary of a LTTE cadre who had been ill for sometime and died Monday.
Additional Heroes day ceremonies were held in Vaakarai-Kandalady presided by Head of LTTE Aandankulam Political Wing Thothiran, in Thandiyadi presided by Head of Batticaloa-Amparai Political Wing, Kausalyan, in MaavadiMunmari presided by Commander Bavan and in Kanjikudichaaru, Amparai district presided by Commander UmaRam, LTTE sources in Batticaloa said.
Mr. Markan, the Special Commander for Aandakulakoddam, raises the Tamil Eelam flag.
