Court issues temporary order against TULF meetings

Colombo district court today issued an interim injunction against the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) holding Central Committee meetings until the 31 December, legal sources in Colombo said.

The Colombo district court made the ruling after examining the petition filed by TULF President Ananadasangaree which accused TULF Secretary General R.Sampanthan and Vice President Joseph Pararajasingham of attempting to convene TULF Central Committee meetings without consulting the President Anandasangaree, sources said.

The Petition by Anandasangaree further said, "TULF constitution stipulates that Central Committee meetings can be organized only after consultations with the TULF President. The Secretary General has scheduled a Central Committe meeting for 31 December at Thirukovil in Ampara district without consulting me.

"A no-confidence motion against me was passed during a meeting held on 30 November. I refused to accept the vote as I considered the voting illegal.

"I rejected the notion that the Liberation Tigers are the sole representative of the Tamil people. I learnt from the local media that LTTE has instructed the Secretary General and the Vice President to remove me from the post of President.

"Hence I have been forced to take legal action. I request the Court to rule that future meetings held without consulting me are illegal," petition filed by Anandasangaree further said according to legal sources.
