Grenade attack on Muslim shop in Trincomalee

No one was injured and the front portion of the building was was damaged when unidentified persons Thursday midnight lobbed a grenade at a textile shop run by a Muslim trader, which is located along the Third Cross Street in the heart of Trincomalee town, Trincomalee police said.

The Trincomalee Police commenced investigation into the incident immediately to the find out the culprit.

One police official said that the investigation would cover all aspects of the incident whether a third force was behind this attack or it had taken place due to business rivalry.

However almost all shops belonged to Muslim traders along the North Central Road and Central Road in the east port town have been closed.

The Sri Lanka Army and Police deployed more personnel in the town at strategic junctions to maintain law and order, sources said.
