Humanitarian demining group adds 40 new staff

The Humanitarian Demining group of the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) is to resume demining in the Batticaloa district with an expanded staff starting from Friday, said S.Thevarajan, Batticaloa district TRO co-ordinator.

For the past two months the demining group was stationed in Palaiyadivattai in Vellaveli region and were clearing mines in Batticaloa district.

The current staff count of 30 is to be increased by another 40 new workers. Interviews have been conducted for 80 applicants and the successful applicants will undergo intensive training in Palaiyadivattai itself, Thevarajan said.

The demining staff will be appropriately divided into smaller groups and will be sent to identified regions in Batticaloa district infested with mines.
