In a cultural event organized by the Fine Arts and Cultural Division of Women's Wing of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam Saturday in Kilinochchi, Leader of LTTE, Pirapaharan praised the contributions of Tamil women artists to Theatre, Drama, Tamil struggle and commended the artists for stimulating cultural awareness among the public, sources from Vanni said.
Head of LTTE Political Wing S.P.Thamilchelvan, Deputy Head S.Thanagan, and Head of the Women's Cultural Wing Ms.Mahes also participated. The event concluded with an evening of cultural programs. Pirapaharan presented a special award to Baby Teacher who has been intimately involved in nurturing Theatre and Dance in NorthEast directing and producing several plays. Her productions such as 'SangaNaatham' (Sound of Conch) has received wide acclaim in the NorthEast. Speaking at the event, Pirapaharan said, "Theater and dance artforms have exceptional ability to captivate and motivate people. They evoke deep feelings of patriotism, promote creativity and foster sense of community service. During my youth watching plays, cinema versions of 'Sangilian' (last king of Jaffna) and 'Kattabomman' (South Indian Chiefton known for his bravery in battlefield) saw the early seeds and instilled in me the courage to fight against oppression. Growth of these deep feelings manifested in the creation of the strong movement that we have now. "Only artists can truely express the sacrifice and courage shown by our fighters. Our artists continue their special duryt to translate the historical achievements of our fighters in appropriate forms for future generations to learn, appreciate and engage."
