Pongu Thamil demonstration to UN

The International Co-ordinating Committee of the Liberation Tigers is organizing a 'Pongu Thamil (Tamil Uprising)' march to the United Nations Head Office, Geneva on 5 April, and has called support of expatriate Tamils. "This is the time when the united strength of the Tamils is poised to become the decisive factor in Sri Lanka's history. Once again it has become a vital necessity for the Tamils of the world to show their united strength," the organizers said in a memorandum released to the press Friday.

The memorandum further said that the following issues will be emphasized during the march:

• Tamil Nation, Tamil Homeland and the right to self determination- these aspirations of Tamils should be recognized.
• The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam are the sole representatives of the Tamil People. Countries that have banned the organization should lift the ban.
• The Sri Lankan armed forces who are occupying residential areas of the Tamil people under the guise of High Security Zones should vacate the area allowing the owners to resettle in their own homes.
• Tamil fishermen should be allowed to fish in coastal areas without any hindrance. Their security should be guaranteed.
• The Sri Lanka government should stop colonizing Tamil areas with Sinhalese.
• Until a permanent settlement is reached in Sri Lanka, Tamil refugees in countries of the West should not be repatriated.

The organizers said that transportation arrangements to and from the march venue have been made in almost all European countries.
