The Colombo District Judge Mr.D.Ganepola gave time till May 10 for the two respondents, Mr.R.Sampanthan and Mr.Joseph Pararajasingham, Secretary General and Senior Vice President of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) respectively, to file their objections to the petition filed by the President of the TULF Mr. Veerasingham Anandasangaree, legal sources said.
The petition filed by Mr.Anandasangaree came up for inquiry in the Colombo District Court on March 16. However the Counsel for the two respondents in the case Mr. Mohan Balendra made an application requesting time to file objections. The Magistrate allowed the application and put off the case for May 10th, legal sources said. At the last date of inquiry, the District Judge directed the respondents to file objection on the petition on March 16. The enjoining order preventing the two respondents to hold meetings of the TULF central working committee without consulting the petitioner Mr.Anandasangaree has still been in force. Mr.Anandasangaree obtained the enjoining order on a petition filed by him in the District Court of Colombo last December, legal sources said. Because of this petition, in the forthcoming general election, the Tamil National Alliance is contesting in the name of Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) and its symbol HOUSE instead of “ Rising Sun” of the TULF. Mr.Anandasangaree has fielded an independent group led by him in the Jaffna district. Both factions of the TULF are unable to use the party name and its election symbol because of the legal wrangle between the President and other key officials of the party, sources said.
