Sampanthan to address TNA election rallies in Jaffna
[TamilNet, Monday, 22 March 2004, 18:31 GMT]
Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader Mr.R.Sampanthan is scheduled to attend
several election rallies in Jaffna electoral district Tuesday. He will fly
to Palaly from Colombo Tuesday afternoon after meeting the ambassadors of
the member countries of the European Union (EU), TNA sources said.
Mr.Sampanthan's visit to Jaffna is widely expected as a crucial one in Jaffna
political circles, as he is to address TNA rallies against the independent
group fielded by TULF President Mr. V.Anandasangaree
and Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) led by Mr. Douglas Devananda,
sources said. Mr.Anandasangaree has been forced to field an independent group following
his legal action taken by him against the TULF Secretary General and Senior
Vice President Mr.Sampanthan and Mr.Jospeh Pararajasingham respectively. However except Mr.Anandasangaree other leaders in the TULF have been
contesting general election in the name of Ilankai Thamil
Arasu Katchchi (ITAK), which is popularly known in the southern politics as the
Federal Party (FP), sources said. This is the first time Mr.Sampanthan is to address election meeting against
his party President Mr.Anandasangaree.
