LTTE Trincomalee new political head assumes duties

Mr.C. Elilan, new Trincomalee district political head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Saturday night met with the Tamil media personnel in the Trincomalee district, sources in Trincomalee said. Elilan was introduced to media persons by the outgoing district political head Mr.S.Thilak.

Earlier Mr.Elilan met with the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians of the Trincomalee district Messrs R.Sampanthan and K.Thurairetnasingham. Mr.Elilan said he would meet the heads of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka Army and Police in the Trincomalee district Sunday morning. The meeting will take place in the office of the Trincomalee SLMM, he added. Mr.I.Malarone, newly appointed administrative head of the branch office of the LTTE political division in Trincomalee, also attended the press briefing.

Mr.Elilan said he would continue the political work programme of Mr.Thilak. Mr.Elilan further said contribution by the Tamil media to the liberation struggle of the LTTE is very much appreciated. Tamil media played a vital role in informing the world the sacrifice and valiant fight made by LTTE cadres in the battleground. He said the Tamil media played a constructive role in the April 2nd general election and “Karuna affair” by publishing the true facts of the events on the ground. Commenting on the killings of LTTE cadres in Thannamunai in Batticaloa recently Mr.Elilan said, "we cannot allow our cadres getting killed when there is a climate of peace. These killings have taken place in the Sri Lanka government controlled areas and the government should take responsibility for the killings."
