Fishing ban reimposed

The ban on fishing which was lifted on the Maathagal coast in late January has been imposed again residents in the area said. They said that the lifting of the ban now appeared to be an election gimmick.

Hundred and fifty fishing families who have resettled in Maathagal have been hit by the ban said sources.

Meanwhile, a conference to review expansion fishing in the peninsula was scheduled to be held in the Presidential secretariat in Colombo this afternoon.

The leader of the Eelam People's Liberation Front (EPRLF) who was appointed by the PA regime as an advisor to the Ministry of fisheries had requested the conference said an EPRLF spokesman.
