Indian fishing trawlers confiscated by the Jaffna High Court for poaching
in the northern sea have been handed over to Sri Lanka Navy and other
government agencies for their use. 47 Indian trawlers taken into custody
have been kept in the Kankesanthurai harbour under the supervision of the
Sri Lanka Navy on a confiscation order by court, sources said.
Jaffna officials of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources
Thursday handed over six such trawlers to the Sri Lanka Navy on the orders
of their superiors. Jaffna Government Agent Mr.S.Pathmanathan Friday handed
over another four trawlers to the Kayts Divisional Secretary Mr.K.Srimohan
to organize a regular transport service between islets and the mainland,
the sources said.
