Time bomb on busy road in Batticaloa defused

A time bomb was discovered by a busy road in Batticaloa town Wednesday, Police said. Heavy morning traffic on Trinco Road was blocked for two hours while Sri Lanka army's bomb disposal unit disabled the timing device concealed in a box and exploded the bomb behind sandbags around 8.45 a.m.

A workman discovered the bomb when he arrived early morning to sweep the roadside in front of Daya Stores, a large shop on Trinco Road that sells liquor and vehicle spare parts. "If the bomb had exploded during the morning office and school rush hour, there would have been bloody mayhem", a Police officer said.
