Norwegian peace envoy arrives in Colombo

Norwegian special peace envoy Mr. Eric Solheim arrived in Colombo Monday
evening on a five-day visit to hold talks with the leaders of Government of
Sri Lanka and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) with the aim to a
make a headway in the resumption of stalled peace talks, political sources said.
Mr.Solheim will be in Sri Lanka till September 17. He is to hold talks with
President Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge, Prime Minister Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse and
several leaders of the government Tuesday and Wednesday. He is to travel to Killinochchi on September 16 to meet LTTE political head
Mr.S.P.Thamilchelvan. Mr. Hans Brattskar, Norwegian ambassador in Colombo will accompany
Mr.Solheim to Killinochchi, the sources said. Mr.Solheim is to meet the Leader of the Opposition and former Prime
Minister Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe and leaders of other political parties
during his stay in Colombo, the sources said.
