Internally Displaced Peoples' (IDP) Welfare unit of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has taken steps to get back about thirteen houses from the occupation of Sri Lanka Police in Ilavalai and to hand over them to the displaced owners who are now staying in welfare centres, sources said.

The Sri Lanka Police established a police station in Ilavalai village occupying thirteen houses belonging to Tamil families following the military operation launched by the Sri Lanka Army in 1992.

Displaced owners of these houses are now demanding that their houses be returned, sources said.
