Tamil artistes honoured in Trincomalee[TamilNet, Friday, 01 October 2004, 05:43 GMT]Sixteen Tamil artistes most of them from remote villages in the Trincomalee district who are excelled in various forms of Tamil arts were honoured at the fifteenth anniversary of a leading musical club in Trincomalee ‘Super Sangeeth’ held recently at Trincomalee St.Joseph's College auditorium. One of the musicians Mr.Thambirajah Logitharaja is a blind from birth and hails from Kanguvely in Muttur east in Trincomalee district. Mr.Logitharajah now 68, a talented Miruthangam artist, in 1977 organized a five-member music group in his village. He is a self-made artiste and excels in Flute, Mouth Organ and Dolak. He bagged several prizes in school competitions at district and provincial level in early days.
Participating as the chief guest Mr.M.K.M.Haniffa, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Provincial Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs, Sports and Youth Affairs said the Super Sangeeth Music Club is in the forefront to raise fund for the welfare of the war affected families in the district. The Club should be commended for honoring village-level artistes who are hitherto lived in dark, he added The honoured artistes were Mr.S.Ratnasingham of Chenaiyoor, Messrs A.F.Xavier, S.Jeyaraj Baiwa, Mohamed Jabbar of Muttur, Pulavar Kanagaretnam of Sallaiyoor, Mr.Logitharajah of Kanguveli, Mr.K.Shanmugalingam of Thampalakamam Mr. James Ragal, Mr.J.M.Alexander, Mr.K.Sadachcharam, Mr.S. Thuraisingham, Mr.Feroz Said, Mr.S.Christopher, Mr.S.Jesuthasan, Ms Saratha Sriskandararajah, and Ms Regina Mathews of Trincomalee. All the artistes were honoured with golden shawls and certificates by the chief guest Mr. Haniffa, Mr.Kavi Anban, Trincomalee district head of the Thamileelam Education Board and Mr.Vansatharana, a Police officer Mr.S.Dominic, Assistant Director of Education who is in charge of Audio Visual Unit of the North East Provincial Education and Cultural Ministry is the President of the club.
