Resettlers receive houses built with World Bank funding

Ceremonial handing over of keys of new houses built with World Bank funding and organized by the Tamils Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) was held in Ananda Nagar in Kilinochchi at 12.30 Tuesday. Local Non Governmental Organizations and private citizens provided additional funding support to the Rs.150,000 provided by the World Bank to build each house.
Jaffna district Government Agent (GA), Mr Pathmanathan, Kilinochchi GA, Mr Rasanayagam, Karaichi Assistant GA Ms Sulojini, Deputy Planning Commissioner Ms Meera Thissanayagampillai, North East Deputy Housing Commissioner A.Ketheeswaran, Technical Officer, Rajakumar, Kilinochchi Director of TRO, Reagan, Akkrayan Deputy District Commissioner, K. Nalliah, NorthEast Development and Rehabilitation Officer, Nesan, World Bank Representative, Naresh Duraiswamy and several district level officers and public participated in the ceremony. Consultant to the World Bank, Dr.Narayanan, and Ms Meera Thissanayagampillai lit the ceremonial lamp. World Bank representative and the new owner of house jointly cut the ribbon to the house being given away. GA Mr Rasanayagam handed over the house key to the owner. A total of 22 houses were handed over to the new owners Tuesday. The housing scheme will help displaced widows, disabled and the poorest families to resettle, TRO officials said.
