Two tigers killed - STF

The Special Task Force (STF) at Akkaraipattu camp in south eastern Amparai District claimed that its commandos had shot dead two Liberation Tigers who had attempted to escape during a cordon and search operation today in Thamarai Kulam 20 km south of Akkaraipattu on the trunk road to Pottuvil.

The commandos captured alive the wounded LTTE area leader for Thandiyadi and Thamarai Kulam, the STF said.

He is now detained at the Akkaraipattu STF camp where the bodies of the two Liberation Tigers are being kept until they are handed over to the ICRC tomorrow, said an STF commando.

He also said that the STF had recovered weapons and communication equipment from the LTTE.
