Norwegian FM to meet Sri Lanka's President Wednesday

Norwegian Foreign Minister Mr.Jan Peterson accompanied by his deputy Mr.Vidar Helgessen and special envoy Mr.Erik Solheim is due to hold talks with Sri Lanka's President Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge Wednesday evening regarding the resumption of peace talks with Liberation Tigers of Tamil Liberation (LTTE), Presidential secretariat sources said.

Oslo talks, 041202.Mr.Jan Peterson is due to arrive in Colombo Wednesday around noon with Mr.Vidar Helgessen, sources said.

Colombo political sources speculate that Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge is likely to hand over a special message to Mr.Peterson to be delivered to LTTE leadership in Killinochchi.

Mr.Peterson is scheduled to meet LTTE leader Mr.Velupillai Pirapaharan Thursday, sources said.

Mr.Erik Solheim has already held talks with leaders of Tamil National Alliance (TNA), Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and Dr.Jayantha Dhanapala, Secretary General of the Government Peace Secretariat Tuesday, sources said.

Mr.Anton Balasingham, LTTE political strategist is already in Killinochchi and is reported to have had discussion with LTTE leader Mr.Pirapaharan Tuesday night regarding the latest development in resuming peace talks, sources said.
